‘Duck Dynasty’ star’s screwup gets me mad for another reason

Mini-petty-diatribe time

This is not a diatribe on what I think about gays and lesbians. If that’s what you were looking for when you clicked on this, all I can give you is this: in terms of your sexual preference, I do not care, unless you’re going after my main squeeze (otherwise known as ‘Lady EZ’). Then I care. That’s it.

What my mini-diatribe is, though, is petty. Fair warning. It’s on the hypocrisy of the Duck Dynasty haters.

If you missed it, Phil Robertson, the “grandpa” of the Duck Dynasty show and founder of their massive duckcall business said the following in the latest GQ magazine:

“Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men. Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers — they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

Now, the criticism that is following these remarks is warranted. No doubt about it. He’s a public figure. When a public figure says something controversial, that’s what happens.

Except when said criticism comes from a certain group of people.

The thing that really pisses me off is the group will throw down the gauntlet on Robertson for his quotes while having always claimed to never watch the show and don’t know what it’s about and barely even know who Robertson is, especially if it weren’t for the patented beard.

If you claim that you don’t know who Robertson is, if you claim to never watch this show, why do you care?

Those are the people that I don’t want to hear from. Just shut up. Or, say that you do care about the show. Say that you do hate the show and then condemn Robertson. Feel free.

(Yes, I’m a fan of the show. It’s funny. I love Si.)

But don’t come out of nowhere throwing down the lightning bolts if you’ve claimed to never watch the show.

This is a general philosophy of mine that gets on my nerves: people claim not to care about a public person or group, but the second that person or group does something crazy: boom! “Round up the army. Let’s gettttt himmmmm!”

Just say that you care! Because you do.

Robertson fits the mold at this moment. Gave me a chance to vent.

Mini-petty-diatribe over.
